Wearable Treasure – sustainable sea glass hand collected from the historic beaches surrounding the Isle of Wight

About Shell On The Beach

A love of the Beach – A passion for Crafting Jewellery

Shellonthebeach has grown from my love of visiting the beaches around the historic Isle of Wight stunning coast lines. The shimmering glints of sea glass nestled amongst the pebbles or embedded into the golden sands, crafted by the ever-turning waves fascinated me and inspired me to upcycle these beautiful gems into jewellery.

I’ve always loved the beach, just walking or collecting shells. Although the sea glass caught my eye and I am also drawn to the shells, pebbles and rocks that have interesting surfaces, lines colours and patterns.

Last year I sadly lost my mother and I started my new business in her memory. She always believed I could do anything I put my mind to. I had a new desire to turn these ocean jewels into beautiful pieces of jewellery that could be worn. Sea glass has a history, a story of its own and I give it new life to continue its story.

During a visit to my holiday home on the Isle of Wight, a friend loaned me her jewellery making tools and I was able to create my first necklace, by learning how to drill a hole in the sea glass, inserting a jump ring and hanging it on a silver chain. It thrilled me to create a beautiful piece of jewellery so I invested in my own equipment, started crafting jewellery and I started selling online on my etsy store a month later October 2022.

Shellonthebeach was born from my name – michelle – and my passion for beachcombing. My husband and 13 year old twins are often looking for beach treasures. My name describes where I find my ocean glass. My eldest son created my website and my logo. My daughter is inspired to create her own jewellery designs. I am lucky to have a loving family who support me.

I collect sea glass and turn it into wearable treasure. With my jewellery, no matter where you are you will always hold a piece of the sea and your holiday memories close to your heart. My aim is to give a new purpose to the sea glass and enhance its natural charm.
